Getting started

Your Getting started checklist

A short checklist on Home that takes you from your first list or wishlist to sharing it with family. Steps tick themselves off as you go.

New to Wishpile? A Getting started card at the top of Home walks you through the few steps that make Wishpile useful, ending with the one that matters most: bringing in the people you buy for.

How it works

The steps depend on what you picked on the welcome screen:

  • Plan gifts I'm buying: make a list for an occasion, add someone you're buying for, add a gift idea, then ask someone for their wishlist.
  • Share my own wishlist: start your wishlist, add three things you'd love, send it to family, then plan a gift you're giving.
  • Run a group or Secret Santa: start the group, add the people, send the invite link, then add your own wishes (or draw names, for a Secret Santa).

If someone invited you into their group, your steps help you add your wishes, claim a gift for someone, and start planning your own. If you skipped the welcome screen, Wishpile picks the steps from what you've already started.

Tap a step's button and Wishpile takes you straight to the right place. You don't need to tick anything: a step is done as soon as the thing is done, wherever you did it.

Pick different steps

Want to do something else first? Tap Show me something else at the bottom of the card and pick from Plan gifts I'm buying, Share my own wishlist, Start a family group, or Run a Secret Santa. Steps you've already done stay ticked, and checklists you've finished are marked Done.

Hide it, or bring it back

  • Tap Hide at the bottom of the card to put it away.
  • To bring it back, tap the circle with your initial at the top right, then Getting started. It shows how many steps you've done.

When you finish

The card says You're all set and keeps your ticked steps, so you can tap any of them again, like adding another gift. If there's a part of Wishpile you haven't tried, it suggests it. Tap Show me something else to see the other checklists (ones you've finished are marked Done), or Done to put the card away.

Good to know

  • Steps count what you've done in your whole account, so you might find some already ticked.
  • Sending a link counts as soon as you pick an app to send it with, or copy it. Closing the share sheet without sending doesn't count.
