Your own wishlist

How Wishpile keeps your surprises

You never see who's getting you what, or even whether a wish is taken. Here's what stays hidden from you, and what gift-givers can and can't see.

When people shop from your wishlist, Wishpile keeps it a surprise. You never see who's getting you what, or even whether a wish has been claimed.

On your own wishlists

Your wishlist page never shows claims. Every item looks the same whether someone has claimed it or not, so you can keep adding and editing without spoiling anything.

The same goes for your wishlist in a group. Other members can see who's getting what on your list, but you can't.

If you open your share link while signed in, Wishpile knows it's you. You'll see This is your wishlist - claim activity is hidden for you so your gifts stay a surprise. and every item is listed as available.

If you open it while signed out, Wishpile can't tell it's you, so you'd see it the way a visitor does. To be safe, don't peek.

Under a person

If one of your wishlists shows under a person on a gift list, your own wishes there always say Not claimed yet, whether or not someone is getting them.

If you plan with a partner, they see the real status on those wishes: Claimed when someone has claimed it from your share link, so they don't buy it twice. They never see who claimed it.

In a household

If you plan with a partner, any person on their plan who is linked to you (an eye icon with a line through it marks them) is hidden from you, along with every gift for them.

In emails

Wishpile's group emails never mention anything added to or claimed from your own wishlist, and they never name who claimed a gift.

What gift-givers see

  • On a shared link: every item, and whether it's claimed. Never who claimed it. The name someone types when they claim isn't shown to anyone, including you.
  • In a household: your partner sees whether a wish under a person is claimed, never who claimed it.
  • In a wishlist group: other members can see who's getting what, so they can coordinate. The person the wishlist belongs to can't.
